UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII - INFRASOUND LABORATORY OF HAWAII
www.isla.hawaii.edu
University of Hawaii - Infrasound Laboratory of Hawaii (ISLA) monitors the central Pacific for atmospheric infrasound signals as evidence of nuclear testing to support the international Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. ISLA's environmental sensors and data collection system are also able to detect evidence of global geophysical and meteorological events, enhancing existing advance warning systems for Hawaii and surrounding areas.

UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA - SANTA CRUZ (UCSC)

UCSC researcher Matt McCarthy uses ultrafiltration to sample NELHA surface and deep seawater supplies for dissolved organic nitrogen compounds. Samples are then analyzed using a number of novel and experimental techniques. His studies focus on biogeochemical cycles in the ocean from an organic chemical perspective, with a particular interest in how organic molecules link biological and geochemical processes and mediate flows of carbon, nitrogen and energy.
