BLACK PEARLS, INC. (BPI) has developed hatchery technology for black-lip and gold-lip pearl oysters,and finfish hatchery techniques for various valuable food fish species, including kampachi, mahimahi and giant groupers. A commercial hatchery is now operational at NELHA to supply a separate non-NELHA cage culture business offshore of the Kona Coast.

From its present site of 30 acres, Koyo USA Corp. produces a bottled water product, "Mahalo", which consists of purified 100% Hawaii deep seawater, exported on a weekly basis to an enthusiastic, growing Japanese consumer market.

Taylor Shellfish Company, headquartered in Washington State, is one of the largest U.S. clam and oyster producers and maintains a nursery at NELHA where juvenile mollusks take a "winterless Hawaiian growout vacation" during critical early growth periods. Hundreds of millions of juvenile Manila clams and juvenile Pacific oysters are exported back to Washington each year for final growout in company-owned intertidal areas or sold as seed stock for other growers.

Troutlodge Marine Farms Kona LLC, a Washington-based company, operates an aquaculture facility specializing in black cod ("butterfish") and Moi to service markets throughout the Pacific Basin with fresh products and seed stock.
